What caused this destruction in Chicago? When did it occur? How many lives were lost?
Heat Waves
Each year, heat waves kill more people than tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes combined.
In this decade, over 60,000 heat-related deaths were recorded in Europe.
In the U.S., African Americans suffer heat deaths at 150-200% of the rate of non-Hispanic whites.
More people died in the 1995 Heat Wave; however, few people know about this later event.
